Massage Types Explained: Which One Should You Book?

Swedish, Thai, Balinese, deep tissue, aroma therapy — the names can be confusing. Here is what each one feels like.

Swedish massage

Long, flowing strokes with light to medium pressure. The best starting point if you have never had a massage, or if you simply want to unwind.

Deep tissue massage

Slower, firmer pressure that works into tight muscle layers. Ideal for desk-job stiffness in the shoulders, upper back and neck. Expect some intensity, never sharp pain — tell your therapist to ease off any time.

Thai massage

Assisted stretching and rhythmic pressure along the body, done in comfortable clothing with no oil. Great for mobility and a feeling of lightness afterwards.

Balinese massage

A blend of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatic oil strokes. Relaxing but still therapeutic — a good middle ground between Swedish and deep tissue.

Aroma therapy

Swedish-style strokes with essential oils chosen for calm, energy or relief. Best when stress and sleep are your main concerns.

Foot and upper body reflexology

Focused pressure-point work on the feet or the head, neck and shoulders. Perfect as a shorter session or an add-on.

Scrubs, wraps and signature rituals

Body scrubs and wraps work on the skin rather than the muscles, and pair well with a 120 minute booking. Our signature and jacuzzi rituals combine soaking, scrub and massage.
